Endoscopy

Endoscopy is the examination of the esophagus, stomach, bile ducts, and intestines using a flexible instrument equipped with a light and micro-camera system at its tip.

Services provided in the Endoscopy Unit include:

· Gastroduodenoscopy

· Colonoscopy

· Rectosigmoidoscopy

· These procedures are performed with videoendoscopic models, allowing images and CD recordings.

The endoscopy unit is used not only for diagnostic purposes but also for treatment.

Diagnostic Endoscopy

· Esophagogastroduodenoscopy: Used to examine the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum (diagnosis of stomach ulcers, gastritis, alkaline reflux gastritis, reflux, stomach polyps, tumors and cancers, and lesions or tumors in the esophagus).

· Colonoscopy: Used to examine the anal canal, rectum, and large intestine (diagnosis of colon cancer and polyps, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and follow-up, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation, colitis, and other intestinal diseases).

Therapeutic Endoscopy

· Polypectomy: Endoscopic removal of colon and stomach polyps without surgery.

· Sclerotherapy: Endoscopic injection therapy to stop bleeding from varices and ulcers.

· Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG): Creating an opening into the stomach endoscopically to enable feeding for patients with esophageal strictures or who cannot feed orally.

· Foreign Body Removal: Extraction of accidentally swallowed objects such as needles or coins using endoscopy.

· Cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of the endoscope and all related instruments are critically important. Our unit uses automatic washing and sterilization devices.

· Procedures are documented with reports and images, which can be saved to CD and archived. Patients receive a copy upon request.

· Although complications during endoscopic procedures are very rare, our unit is equipped with a CRASH CART containing emergency medications and equipment for rapid intervention. This includes oxygen, suction devices, monitors, defibrillator, and intubation tools.
